Objective:

Learn basic features and capabilities of Ecotect Analysis and Green Building Studio (GBS) to perform energy analysis on Revit models in a typical workflow.

Topics Include:

  • Overview of Sustainable design tools: Properly calibrating expectations about sustainable analysis tools vs. energy modeling tools. Leveraging the inherent power of BIM in sustainable design tools.
  • Understanding the Ecotect Interface: Pages; Panels; Menus; Toolbars
  • Compatibility with Revit: Understanding the .dxf and gbXML file transfer protocols
  • Preparing a Revit Project for use with Ecotect: Adding Revit Room Objects, Checking Room Object Heights, Space and HVAC Zone Objects, adding Revit MEP 2010 Space Objects, Adding Revit MEP 2010 HVAC Zone Objects
  • Pre-design Site Analysis: Methods for performing analysis before designing
  • Setting up an Ecotect project: Assigning Weather Data; Zone Management; Solar Analysis; Shadows and Reflections
  • Materials: General Material Properties; Primary and Alternate Material Assignment, Test materials
  • Calculations: Daylight Analysis and Sun Path Diagram Analysis, Inter-zonal adjacency calculations
  • Green Building Studio to eQUEST Workflow: GBS and DOE 2.2 simulation, GBS alignment with ASHRAE 90.1-2004
  • Ecotect Simulations, Visualizations and Presentation: Animations, etc.
  • The Help Menu: Stuff You Should Know; Animated and Interactive Demos
