Reed Construction Data Releases SmartBIM Library and SmartBIM QTO for Revit 2011

Reed Construction Data (RCD) today announced new releases for two of its leading BIM products, SmartBIM Library 4.0 and SmartBIM QTO 2.0, which now include support for Revit 2011 from Autodesk®.

The enhancements to SmartBIM Library make object content management easier by improving performance for publishing and filtering large catalogs of BIM family content.  These enhancements along with the other features of SmartBIM Library can drastically reduce time spent managing and organizing Revit families.

SmartBIM Library 4.0 comes pre-loaded with over 23,000 high-quality Revit product types, including MEP families, and continually publishes new content from a growing list of building product manufacturers.

SmartBIM QTO, powered by RSMeans, enables early cost estimating for Revit projects. This product is designed to help architects and designers quickly estimate or refine costs for a project as they go.  As a project changes, architects have the freedom to run cost estimates for multiple design options to facilitate “what-if” scenarios.  After an estimate is created, any line item can be edited manually allowing users to input their own costs or further refine the estimate using the RSMeans CostWorks® database.

“The combination of these two products can save architects and engineers a significant amount of time by streamlining design workflow, providing high-quality BIM content compatible with Revit, and performing quick cost estimates and quantity takeoffs,” said Candice Dobra, Director of BIM Solutions, Reed Construction Data.

SmartBIM Library and SmartBIM QTO now also support network licensing, which simplifies software asset management and allows for concurrent usage of a given number of licenses.

SmartBIM Library 4.0 still includes many features from prior versions including drag-and-drop functionality that allows users to drag objects from SmartBIM Library directly into Revit projects.

Solibri Introduces Information Takeoff (ITO) with release of Solibri Model Checker v6

Solibri has developed an innovative solution called Information Takeoff (ITO). In brief, this capability allows users to collect information from the BIM file, visualize, and report it - instantly. This information can be spatial areas for area calculations, envelope of the building e.g. exterior wall areas for energy calculations, volumes, quantity takeoff and so on. This mining of the model for important data is one example of how powerful BIM can be. While the practice of modeling geometry has very tangible visible benefits, the analysis of information contained within the model is really exploiting the potential of BIM.

The latest release of Solibri Model Checker (v6) delivers this capability, which can fundamentally change the way that all project stakeholders benefit from BIM.
